Explore Cheboygan
Cheboygan sits at the edge of the inland waterway, fifteen minutes from the Mackinac Island ferry, and easy access to the Upper Penninsula and Petoskey. It's a quieter base than the tourist hubs — and a better one.

Built in 1888, the Cheboygan Opera House is one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in Michigan — and one of the gems of the entire state. Its Victorian auditorium seats 582, and its acoustics have carried the voices of performers since the days of Annie Oakley, Mary Pickford, and Marie Dressler.
Today the Opera House anchors the cultural life of the city, hosting live music, touring shows, comedy, community events, and more throughout the year. Staying at Otto House puts you two blocks from the front door — close enough to walk over after dinner and still be home before midnight.

Nautical North Family Adventures runs one of the most unique tours in all of Northern Michigan. Board the Yankee Sunshine, cruise out of the Cheboygan River past four lighthouses, and peer through the glass bottom as three Great Lakes shipwrecks — some dating to 1891 — come into view beneath you.
Expert guides bring the maritime history to life. The 90-minute tour is perfect for all ages, and sunset departures include underwater lights that make the wrecks glow. Snorkeling add-ons are available at select tour times for those who want to get closer.

On the Water
Cheboygan sits at the northern mouth of Michigan's famous Inland Waterway — 40 miles of connected rivers, locks, and lakes stretching south through some of the most pristine wilderness in the Midwest. Boaters and kayakers have been running it for generations.
You can rent a kayak locally and paddle the Cheboygan River, or put in for a longer multi-day run through Mullett Lake, Crooked Lake, and beyond. The waterway is quiet, largely undeveloped, and full of wildlife. It's the kind of thing people come back to Northern Michigan for year after year.
